Engaging with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator and Head of the Organizing Committee of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, met with Mrs. Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director General and Director of Global Partnerships and External Relations at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to discuss ways of cooperation between the two parties to support projects related to the organization's field of work.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hisham Badr referred to the praise of international bodies and the United Nations for the success achieved by the national initiative in its first session, which ended with presenting solutions to environmental problems and climate change and the winning projects to the world at the CoP27 Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the importance of the initiative at the national and international level.
Badr explained that the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects aims to implement green/smart projects by maximizing the use of climate solutions and information technology in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050, and strengthening coordination and partnerships between stakeholders in all governorates to spread community awareness on the challenges of climate change. Empowering different groups in society, including youth, women and the business sector, in addition to preparing a database for smart green projects, finding Egyptian solutions to climate change problems, building the capabilities of cadres in the governorates, as well as smart local, national and international partnership, localization of sustainable development goals, and finding investment opportunities. and a mechanism for financing these projects.
The general coordinator of the initiative stressed the importance of the vital role played by the initiative to network the winners with the initiative’s partners and various investment and financing agencies, with the aim of expanding these projects and providing them with technical, technical and financial support, stressing the importance of spreading awareness of the concept of climate change in all governorates of Egypt, and this is done through training programs. Implemented by the initiative in universities, governorates and all youth centers, in addition to the specialized programs that are offered online on the initiative’s platforms to provide support to project sponsors and those wishing to participate in the upcoming courses.
Ambassador Hisham Badr indicated that the League of Arab States (Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation) welcomed the transfer and dissemination of the initiative in the Arab countries as an unprecedented model globally, as it provides solutions to environmental problems emanating from the governorates and villages of the Arab Republic of Egypt, stressing that the purpose of this initiative is to find real solutions. on the ground.
Badr also reviewed examples of partnerships between a number of international organizations and a number of winning projects in the first round of the initiative to provide the necessary funding for them, including the project "Smart Warning System with Nanotechnology for Control and Early Detection of the Red Palm Weevil" in Ismailia Governorate for the category of non-profit community initiatives, and from The category of development projects related to women is the “Women of the Golden Hand” project in Fayoum Governorate, and the “Three-Dimensional Cutter Design of Electronic Waste Recycling” project in Alexandria Governorate, in addition to the “Scrap Bab Rizq” project in Cairo Governorate, which relies on manufacturing women’s jewelry from scrap recycling and training Women are masters of this craft, and for the category of medium-sized projects, the project "Using sap of the rabat plant in breaking down oils" in North Sinai Governorate.
Ambassador Hisham Badr called; Various projects in the governorates quickly participate in the second round of the initiative, which will be closed on the first of next September, referring to the cash prizes presented by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to the winners, as the prize value for the first-place winning project reaches 750,000 pounds, and 500,000 pounds for the center. The second, and 250 thousand pounds for the third place.
For her part, Ms. Fatou Haidara expressed her interest and keenness of the organization to cooperate with the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, as it is compatible with the goals and vision of the organization in terms of providing support for projects related to the field of the organization, in addition to discussing the possibility of presenting the winning projects at the International Summit in Vienna and encouraging and urging Relevant projects by the organization to join and participate in the initiative.
