The Governor of Qalyubia Holds an Expanded Meeting to follow up the Execution of the Second Phase of the Smart Green Projects Initiative

Today, Abdel Hamid El-Hagan, Governor of Qalyubia, received Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, and Professor Dr. Young people to present it as a pioneering initiative in the field of sustainable and smart development and dealing with the environmental dimension and the effects of climate change.
During the meeting, Mr. Governor welcomed Mr. Ambassador, and he confirmed his great interest in the initiative and following up on its implementation through the governorate’s agencies in partnership with the private sector, Benha University, and other educational and research institutions that the governorate abounds in, indicating that Qalyubia Governorate participated in the first phase of the initiative with (253) various projects, (22) completed projects were selected for the specifications, and 6 projects were selected for the final filtration, which is the project to develop the Al-Akrsha area in the Al-Khanka Center in the category of large projects, the project for managing and operating earthmoving equipment in the category of medium projects, and the “Expisny” project in the category of small projects “a decent life”, and the project "27,000 trees" in the category of projects submitted by startups, the "Role of Renewable Agriculture" project in the category of non-profit community initiatives and participations, and the project to improve the resistance of tilapia fish in the category of development projects related to women, climate change and sustainability.
The Governor of Qalyubia appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and Ambassador Hisham Badr to support this initiative, stressing the governorate’s keenness to provide all possible means of support to its participants. He also called on the people of the governorate to participate in their projects in this initiative, which includes 6 categories, which are large projects, medium projects, and local projects. For his part, Ambassador Hisham Badr affirmed that the initiative is a model to be followed in the world, given that it stems from the Egyptian citizen and not from the government, and that the projects included in the initiative include solutions to existing challenges, adding that the aim of this initiative is the participation of all segments of society in environmental projects that serve the process of sustainable development. The ambassador expressed the initiative's keenness to transfer its experience to the Arab countries, as it is unprecedented globally, being implemented for the first time in the world in all governorates, indicating that the initiative has received international praise from international organizations and institutions, and one of the most important gains of the initiative is the transition from local to global.
For his part, Dr. Gamal Sousse, President of Benha University, confirmed that the implementation of the national initiative for smart green projects comes within the framework of the pivotal role played by Benha University in stimulating green innovation and building the capabilities of the participants in the initiative from Benha University and the local community, as a pioneering initiative in the field of sustainable and smart development. And dealing with the environmental dimension and the effects of climate change, by developing a map at the governorate level for smart green projects and attracting the necessary investments for them, stressing that Benha University, with its capabilities and expertise in this field, seeks to generate momentum towards spreading awareness of the initiative’s goals and criteria of comparison in order to ensure an environment Sustainable achieves a quantum leap towards the transition from traditional life to smart life.
During today's meeting, two of the winning projects in the first phase were reviewed, which is the “Express Me” project, which was presented by Mr. Majid Al-Halafawi, which works to solve the biggest major problem facing the garbage and waste collectors in the governorate, which is how to compact the waste for storage and sorting, as the idea depends on providing mobile presses, which can Access to all places, and find a suitable way for waste collectors, to preserve their material rights. The project will be implemented through the use of a 6-ton truck, equipped with a portable baler to compress plastic, through an innovative design commensurate with the size of the truck, with solar panels to produce the necessary electricity, to carry compressor, and the installation of a device to purify the exhaust emitted from the truck, and convert it into inks that can be reused in printing works..
The renewable agriculture project was also reviewed, which was presented by Ms. Salma Sami. The idea of the project depends on getting rid of the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers and returning to agriculture in the traditional clean way, which contributes to the preservation of living and microorganisms beneficial to the agricultural system that contribute to the storage of greenhouse gases inside the soil.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Iman Rayan and Dr. Samir Hammad, the two deputy governors, Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, Vice President of Benha University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Major General Abdullah Ashour, General Secretary, Dr. Nermin Adly, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Benha University, and a group of professors from Benha University.
